How to support someone without trying to fix everything
Support can begin with listening and asking what would help, rather than immediately offering solutions.

Ask before advising
Give the person space to explain what is difficult. Check whether they want company, practical help, or ideas. Avoid comparing their experience with someone else's or promising a quick solution.
Offer a manageable commitment
Suggest a specific task or check-in you can reliably provide. Respect privacy and the person's choices. If difficulties are persistent, encourage appropriate professional support without treating your own availability as the only source of help.
Practical checklist
- Ask whether they want you to listen or help with a practical task.
- Let them describe their experience without comparing it with somebody else's.
- Offer to help find professional support or accompany them if they want.
In the Philippines, contact your usual health center, pharmacist or appropriate clinician for individual advice. Service availability and fees vary; ask the provider directly.
